Don't delete - anonymize and preserve the value of data for the long term

Companies have begun to address this problem by storing historical data on Hadoop platforms that can be easily and inexpensively scaled up, providing both large-scale distributed data storage and distributed computing power for processing.

However, due to GDPR, not all data can be stored forever.

The GDPR defines what customers can ask companies to do with their data and does not allow them to process or store personal data forever. The retention period for personal data is determined by the laws of each country.

As companies cannot keep personal data forever, they must delete or anonymise it after a certain period of time. However, erasure means that the company loses valuable data, and complete anonymisation may lead to unnecessary use of the data for any analytical purposes.
