DS&BI Academy at the University of Economics and Business

Our goal is to show that the world of Data Science is achievable if you have the desire to learn. Every year we innovate the teaching together with the VŠE and we solve the problems in tools that correspond to the technological advances in the field.

DS&BI Academy educates future professionals in the field of Data Science & Business Intelligence through workshops. Adastra is one of the partners of the project, which has been organized for several years by the Faculty of Information Technology of the University of Economics and Business (VŠE) in Prague.

Evaluation

"We need educated colleagues not only on our side but also on the other side - at the customer's side. It turns out that today there are generally not enough of such people, and so there is no choice but to do something to ensure that graduates come out of schools with the education they need. The VŠE is very close to Adastra in terms of the profile of its graduates, so it was chosen."

Timeline

5th year (2022)

Throughout the five years we follow a standard agenda, which means that after an introduction to Data Science we focus on preparing datamaps, building analytical models and finally evaluating and interpreting them. Our lecturing team was significantly changed this year, it consisted of Dagmar Bínová, Radek Nevyhoštěný, Markéta Navrátilová helped with the preparation, Jan Jirka sat on the defense committee.

4th year (2021)

Even covid-19 did not stop us, although the whole year was online due to the pandemic. We just smoothly switched to the virtual environment. The quality of teaching did not suffer. We just missed the personal connection. Markéta Navrátilová has newly joined the teaching duo.

3rd year (2019/2020)

We replaced the cloud environment with the servers of the VŠE data centre. The sample case analysis was over housing data. The year was supervised by Jakub Augustín and Dagmar Bínová.

2nd year (2018/2019)

We used the Jupyter tool on the cloud. Using real data about the passengers of the Titanic, we tried to predict whether they would survive or drown. The team of lecturers was completed by Oleg Masaylo.

1st year (2017/2018)

The pilot year was marked by League of Legends. In a cloud-based Big Data platform (Spark, Zeppelin), students used real data to design and build a prediction model to predict the winner. The course was taught by Jakub Augustín, Dagmar Bínová and Marcel Vrobel.
